Amanda Geffen
Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf
Hello everyone once again. I will be talking about the ESDAA Division II Girls Basketball Tournament in Rhode Island. We came in 5th place out of nine teams. Our team lost the first round which it really affected a lot to 5th place in the final. We lost to Scranton. Our team didn’t show a lot of efforts on the court. Our shooting forms was totally off this day. Amanda with 20 points and Lizzie with 10 points tried to pursuit the scores. We were so heartbroken to lose this game.
The second round against New York School for the Deaf, Rome. We won by 10 points, 45 to 35, with a lot of bad calls from the referees. With Amanda’s 17 points, Lizzie’s 6 points, the rest 22 points helped the team with a lot of motivations on the court. The third round against West Virginia for Consolation Championship, we won about twenty points away, 44 to 24. Our team shows a lot of anger on the court and score a lot of points. We did amazing job on the court and we played with our passion. With Amanda’s 13 points, Lizzie’s 11 points and the rest 20 points. The best part of the tournament is to social and meeting new friends in the tournament.
We also won the Team 21 Competition on Saturday morning against Rochester. First round, my team make 160 points and benefits for the championship game and we got over 170 points and beat Rochester. Our team was very eager to get the ball in the basket and show a lot of energy to win this competition.
The team were thinking about to bring some trophies home with us before the tournament begins. But, we did bring Consolation Championship trophy and Team 21 Championship trophy too. We are happy that we brought two trophies home with us.
I was selected All-Star from my school. I was very surprise and am very glad that I deserved this because I worked a lot on the court to help my team keep their faith to play on the court.
Well, doing this all over might be differently from the team. Only if we did the amazing job alike we did on the final match against West Virginia would be able in a better place than 5th place.
The final record was 5 wins and 9 loses. We did our a lot of efforts to win some games. It doesn’t matter if we get this lousy record, as long we did have a lot of fun playing on the court against other schools. Hope we will do better next basketball season!
