December Sports Report Hello everyone, I will be again report 2007-2008 The Learning Center Varsity Boys Basketball Team. I did interview with some of boys. Most of them said that TLC's biggest goal is to win ESDAA Division 2 Basketball Tournament at St. Mary's School for the Deaf. St. Mary's School for the Deaf has been beaten us past two years. Also we want to win Massachusetts Bay Independent League Division B (MBIL). It's our hearing league. We has won MBIL in 2004-2005 season. I want to earn MBIL title for second time. All players said that this season team is much better than last season. One of our players said " I can't wait what our outcome results at end of season. " He said it because this year, we are good team and also curious what our final record is. Our last season record is 10 wins and 13 losses. We are off at very good start last season, but somehow academic probation and suspensions are really hurt our team. Right now, we are currently 7-1 record. The players who returning this year are Justin Carrus, Benjamin Letendre, Wilson Velez, Jonathan Salomon, Giuseppe Giacubbo, Andrew Velez, Daniel Letendre, Lamaar Pringle-Hall, Timothy Irvin, Alex Tourreilles, and Jeremy Cormier. New members this year are Tony Dixon ( former Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind) and Jose Morales, sophomore, got cut from tryouts last season. We had only one senior, Giuseppe Giacubbo, he said that he hopes TLC got great results in his last year of basketball. Our coaches havent decide to pick who the captains this year. But our team leaders are Wilson Velez, Justin Carrus, Benjamin Letendre, and Giuseppe Giacubbo due to basketball experiences, Our coaches are returning, head coach is John Monahan and assistant coach is David DelPizzo. We have two managers, Jt Hathaway and Andrew, both are really do good job as managers. We have eight games so far, we did beat our hearing league teams, Commonwealth, Newman Preparatory, and Waldorf of Massachusetts Bay. We did vs deaf schools, Austine School for the Deaf (Brattleboro, Vermont) twice, Rhode Island School for the Deaf, and Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. We did attend New England Tip Off Tournament at Austine School for the Deaf. In opening round, TLC beat RISD 55-43, got advanced to championship game against Austine and we defeated them 59-51. We won Tip Off for second years in a row. But unfortunately we will play against MBIL teams mostly this year than deaf games. We got 1 lost by Cambridge School of Weston, member of MBIL Division A. They rout 74-48 against us. We have been learned a lot of challenges from them. Our upcoming games are TLC vs TLC alumni games on December 29th. Then we will against Boston University Academy on January 4. Right now we will have no games during the holiday breaks until our practice on January 2nd. Have a good holidays!!! Justin Carrus
